What is ba gua?

Ba gua, also known as baguazhang, is a Chinese martial art that focuses on circular movement and changes in direction. It is classified as an internal martial art, along with tai chi and xingyi. Ba gua incorporates principles of Taoism and uses techniques such as striking, kicking, joint locking, and throwing. Practitioners of ba gua also typically practice meditation and qigong exercises to develop internal strength and energy. The techniques of ba gua are often compared to those of a wrestler or a bullfighter, as practitioners use their opponents' movements and momentum against them. In addition to its use as a martial art, ba gua is also practiced for health and meditation benefits.
